Turns out we won't have a clash between the derby and the leadership result - Welsh Labour have moved the announcement to around 10am.

Baffling they didn't schedule it ahead of tonight's or Mondays 6pm news bulletins. As important as I think the Senedd is though it doesn't feel like a change in leader here will really change much.

The Derby is only on FM and Dab because Talksport 2 is airing it and has the online rights.

Compare with the SNP result last year which was around 2pm on a Monday afternoon. A great time to lead the prime news bulletins and get its own coverage (the BBC Scotland coverage was also shown nationally). Though, Labour often have leadership results on Saturdays - both of Jeremy Corbyn's wins were announced on Saturday IIIRC.
Won't delve too much into the politics, but both candidates are members of the current cabinet and probably agree on most things. There could be some 'drama' (for want of a better word) with all the allegations against Vaughan Gething's campaign and if anything more comes out of them if he gets elected. I don't think ITV Wales have barely mentioned these, though most of the stories have been BBC Wales exclusives.
There's also potential for the oppositions to unite to force a deadlock on the vote for a new FM (likely on Wednesday), like they did in 2016, but it should be a formality.

Previous editions would have been broadcast on all frequencies, bar Sounds and FM in North Wales and Newport if Wrexham/Newport were playing at the same time. Likewise, I'd have expected Radio Cymru 2 to air it in full if they didn't have their new, expanded schedule.

Thanks
On radio, it will be quite the handbreak turn to go into that during Owen Money/Tudur Owen.

I dare speculate that Friday afternoon / early evening would have clashed with those in the Senedd who partake in 'POETS' day.
I suppose announcing it on a Saturday does allow for it to be covered in Sunday Politics. It arguably slips under the radar a bit more being announced at the weekend instead of on a weekday, though maybe that was a bit of serendipity.

The Labour Party have used Saturday for leadership announcements for a while.

Slightly away from news presentation, ITV Wales' Coast & Country has a new look and theme. It's also not on the ITV X streaming format, rather it is a video on the news website like the regional news shows were. The show it has replaced in the Friday 7pm slot, Vanished Wales, is on the main ITV X.

IIRC, Starmer's own election to the UK leadership was announced on a Saturday morning - with very minimal fuss - during the first lockdown.

In the end, the BBC News Channel did take the announcment and following speeches live. I think this was a "special" programme from the balcony with Sarah Campbell.
For whatever reason, both Radio Wales and Radio Cymru failed to take the announcment live. Radio Wales had political correspondent James Williams (who is hosting the news special at 11:30) join presenter Owen Money at 10:15 for a 60 second or so update saying who had won and who had lost. Radio Wales had the top of the hour at 10:02 for some reason.
Radio Cymru also announced the result late. Host Tudur Owen handed over to news bulletin presnter Carwyn Jones (not Mark Drakeford's predeccessor) at 10:11 to announce the result. This 'bulletin' was a bit more substantial than the Radio Wales, around three minutes in length, with correspondent Alun Thomas summarising the result from the studio.
Poor effort from BBC Wales, not helped by the scheduling of Welsh Labour.
But more effort than S4C or ITV Wales who haven't covered it on their linear outlets yet, or didn't show a live stream.

Though ITV do have the speech on their socials which to be fair outside of here is the first time I've seen it. And by seen I mean scrolled past.
