Nice to see one of the classic face of BBC News channel and BBC World News return to the world of news presenting.

In the pre-COVID days he did used to pop up as guest business news reviewer on the early morning edition of The World Today.

Very OT, but the start of your comment just instantly reminded me of Jonathan's blooper on the NC, which still makes me laugh every time I see it. I can't resist posting a link. Big Grin

The spotlight moves there in the morning when the Prime Minister returns to number 10 to either form a new government or leave office. Even then nothing happens in Parliament or College Green - despite the fact that it's all about electing people into Parliament, it's not actually involved in the election.

Even on July 5th I don't there will actually be any MPs yet, as they're not sworn in, let alone have their commons passes. Those that have won will mostly be in their constituencies, there's no need for them to come to London except if they're part of the new cabinet

I think winning candidates legally become MP’s the minute they declared elected, Sinn Fein mp’s are never sworn in but are legally MP’s.

A timely reminder that Cllr David Boothroyd's YouTube channel is worth subscribing to. It's a real treasure trove, with lots of bits from by-election and local election coverage.

I wonder if maybe the archive election coverage discussion should be split from this thread.

Are BBC actually doing ANY promos for this 7 way debate its got planned for tomorrow? It starting to become bad that TV compaines are running like hens to chicken feed to get such programmes up and running and then just not caring about it.

ITV at least did a basic promo but its been rather poor.

Doesn't help that 4 of the 7 parties are putting up their b-team for this debate.

I think in some cases that helps though and it's probably somewhat calculated too to appeal to voters the actual leader might not appeal too.

ITV Wales have announced their pre-election programming.

On Sunday June 16th, they will have a three way debate. It will be two hours long at 2000 and replaces Midsomer Murders in tbe network schedule (and up against England's first Euros match on BBC One). The three leading Westminster faces of Welsh Labour, Welsh Conservatives and Plaid Cymru will be present (Shadow Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens, Welsh Secretary David Davies and Plaid Westminster Leader Liz Saville-Roberts) will be taking part, so hopefully it doesn't disend into two hours discussing the political crisis engulfing the Senedd. Poltical Editor Adrian Masters hosts.

National Correspondent and Sharp End host Rob Osborne hosts interviews with figures from other parties the following evening in an hour long show.

And were used to that format for donkey years, Here from 1997 Deputy leaders debate - On the record: Not sure if that would make any real difference.

Interesting set design. Make it look like a church so they might feel more compelled to give truthful answers?
