BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger

Controversially, I like the sound of the watching box - seems a sensible way of doing things to me - and the new countdown seems fine too.

Volunteering. It's #GoodForYou!

Outside source feels significantly less special without Ros Atkins.

It will also be the first time the BBC News countdown as carried the same “identity style” as BBC One and Two since 2001.

Saw this on YouTube just now. May be worth a watch!

As far as I know, the actual launch of Need 24 was at 1730 on 9 October 1997. But I cannot find a recording of that.

It was a documentary on the history of BBC news before that date. But not sure what was broadcast before 1730 that day and have never seen the documentary.

Was on Orion satellite at 37 West for cable operators. But NYNEX did not get it until around November or December so never saw the launch.

Thanks

Shouldn't all of these old videos be posted in the News 24/News Channel memory thread?

As for special branded programs on the ''new'' channel, I'm surprised they are continuing with this, later in the year. Since the channel will be very basic, it would make sense to just have normal BBC News branded bulletins every hour. If they really want to have special programs, why not just continue with the current batch of World programs (Live, Impact, Global) since they all have nice looks and identities, and their presenters will continue in their slots. Coming up with new names, looks and brans sounds like too much work for this new, limited operation.
