I’ve always assumed it’s real. Can’t imagine they would install such an odd feature for the set.

The room is fake. I always found it weird too and thought that we'd grown out of the "fake rooms behind anchors" look. With that said, it has somewhat grown on me.

That's a shame, I also thought it was real. I'd imagined it just to be a breakout area for staff in the building.

In that case I hope they will get rid of the the art museum look asap, and replace it with something that makes the Washington D.C. 
operations look bigger in size. How about a fake newsroom or a pic from one of the newsrooms in the UK.
Especially now when more overnight hours will be coming out of Washington D.C..

I mean, you could but it seems such a minor part of the overall set. It has though been a topic of discussion lately about how Washington will be staffed to provide the hours of rolling coverage overnight. The studio, as is, is currently geared towards a more versatile but still quite fixed set of programmes. Studio guests (despite what the sketch above shows, still look a little cramped. Presentation aside, if the idea is to move a load of overnight shifts to the US then there are still some quite big workflows to solve.

This conversation has triggered my obsession with that unused 'wing' installed inside the desk to the left of the pres. The desk took inspiration from the Newsroom set installed at CNN at Columbus Circle and then at Hudson Yards (Clickspring Design also). However, the one side of the Washington desk has never been used, not even when it was used for the Mid Terms just recently. I had assumed it was because Christian Fraser was sat so close to the touchscreen and deploying it would have meant it would have really looked cramped.

One thing that I do prefer since full time joint operation started, is the shorter, sharper headline sequences. No fillers and faffing around with pointless vox pops, "we'll be taking a look at/analysing.........", inserts from a reporter etc. Just the headlines and into the bulletin in just over 60 seconds.

It does stand out now for UK viewers compared to the 1/6/10 where the headlines are still padded out with pointless filler, dragging it out to 2 and half minutes before the bulletin actually starts.

We are also just over two weeks away from the formal launch of the new channel, and as far as I'm aware, the people who will fill the 8 presenter/reporter roles still have not been announced?

No cock ups regarding unveiling the new graphics early, must be hidden away in a secret graphics engine at bbc nbh.

I really hope Mark Lobel is one of those 8 because he's a great addition to World's presenting team. Fresh face with lots of reporting experience.
