That's nothing special or new, they've joined up like that for breaking news on many occasions over the past few years. 

Even on normal days they simulcast more than they aren't, and even more so during Covid
Martine once said those pre-record shows will also be shown on NC after the merger, so it means a interruption to a BOTH programme may happen on NC on weekdays…

I think ITV has played it correctly since, the BBC had nothing much else to go on since 2pm.

CNN now have a trio from CNNi at Buckingham Palace for the simulcast service. I would imagine there are anchors flying across as we all type.

No, I think a lot of people will have been gradually hearing the news and first thing many still will do is turn on BBC One, I think they’ve done right thing.
