Not sure what the standard width of a fire lane is but the Birmingham studio has 3 doors, one is on the window itself, the other is on what would be the right hand wall facing the window from within the studio itself and the other is the 'scene dock' door, a double office door which runs into the corridor that runs alongside the studio. Along with 2 wallboxes to plug cameras into.
I wasn't really talking about Birmingham being surprisingly big, as it is particular pokey and has already ditched rear projection. Rather I was thinking of regions like Leeds, Hull and Norwich which, while not in the league of Newcastle, Southampton and Bristol, are still losing a fair bit of space to rear projection screens.

The whole of the West programme was dedicated to the lake incident. East got Steve Clamp and Charlotte Cross in the studio as normal.

Bob Warman made a cameo appearance on last nights ITV News Central Christmas Special live from Warwick Castle dressed as Father Christmas.
Shame there wasn't enough time to catch up on how retirement life is going for him but still very nice to see him back on our screens.

ITV News Central didn't go to air this evening due to a fire alarm.
They took Calendar instead and posted recorded bulletins on the website.

From Twitter it seems it was the Calendar South version
Also from Twitter it seems there was a benefit as you got to see a face that used to be familiar round your way - Emma Jesson with the weather
Bye bye

I wonder if Midlands Today & East Midlands Today’s new set will launch at the same time?

I think they'll go to air around the same time - if they're all identical I can feel whichever is closest to being online first will be used to train staff from both regions in its operation (if indeed it is an NBH style digital set with screens everywhere).

While it’s important to tell the story of the young girl who’s mother was murdered, I have to say the first story on ITV Central’s 6pm programme tonight just seemed like an advert for her documentary on ITVX…
