An odd one here from LWT and the show Nobody’s Perfect, essentially an outtake from the programme has been unintentionally transmitted causing the programme to end abruptly. Well handled by Peter Lewis at LWT.
It’ll be alright on the night, not quite…

That is odd. It’s not certain whether the cut to black is on the tape, or done by LWT on the transmission.

I presume someone played out the wrong edit?

I remember watching this as a child. I couldn't work out what had happened and was most annoyed at not seeing the end of the programme. 41 years later I get an answer.

I know some news reports have been played out where the tape was cued too early or the wrong take was used, but I can't say I've ever seen it happen during a sitcom. Maybe if it was edited close to transmission in the same way HIGNFY is, but I can't see why it would be left like that in this case. I'm completely perplexed.

Makes me wonder how it wasn't spotted, the fact it wasn't suggests to me that the programme was complete on the tape, just with an outtake left in. Possibly no one actually watched the whole thing through until it went to air like that?

I know in those days VT machines and edit suites were limited resources so it wasn't as easy as now to watch a programme through. Probably one for Bluecortina... what sort of QC or tech review process did programmes go through back then?

One other thing to point out is that the slide for the next programme is a Yorkshire slide for a Yorkshire programme, I assumed that the companies made up their own

The closest similar mistake I witnessed was last year - so not yet 'gold' - during some BBC snooker highlights, but that's more understandable as the links are presumably recorded very close to transmission. (Video at www.tvliveforum.com )

Like others, not seen such a thing happen in a sitcom before.

Surely somebody must have watched it for compliance purposes? I know it was a different time but the risk of an innocent gag not traveling well must have been significant.

All I can add is it was made by LWT and it went out in the Sunday 10pm slot. The mistake was right at the end of the episode. As I remember it wasn't very good so maybe no one could watch it all the way through.

Looks like Network bought it out on DVD, I imagine they didn't include the version with the outake though Big Grin
