Doctor Who

Another Series 14 casting announcement, with Lenny Rush joining as a character named Morris.

That's at least two disabled guest stars announced so far (Ruth Madeley to appear in a recurring role) which is good to see.

Today saw the announcment of the Season 20 Collection DVD boxset, which saw another special minisode uploaded, starring Janet Fielding. Rather cool to see the Fifth Doctor titles in widescreen HD.

One heck of a coincidence I've been watching classic era Seasons 20 and 21 over the last week or so, and only just last night ... or more like a few hours ago, I just watched the closing episode from "Resurrection of The Daleks", which ended with Tegan's deciding she'd had enough adventures with The Doctor, and to leave the TARDIS behind.

Maybe one too many versions of the logo?

This seems like the opposite and the same problem that BBC Chameleon has...

Thought these were worth a mention. Series 1-4 (the Eccleston and Tennant series) are being re-released on Blu-ray in November, "newly upscaled". They were originally issued on Blu-ray a decade ago, but those discs playback 4% slow due to a change in framerate. Hopefully this release will correct that. No other word on exactly what the new upscale consists of.

There really are some botched conversions and upscales out there, I sometimes even wonder why they bother doing it seeing as it wasn't made in HD to begin with. Though only this week I saw someone complain that BBC4's repeats of I Claudius aren't in HD, it's as if some people automatically expect HD now, even from decades old content.

I think the 24p thing is because, for some reason, many American TVs and players don't accept 25/50Hz content (even though the reverse isn't true with 30/60Hz in 50Hz countries, and we have plenty of 60i blu-rays (and some DVDs) of US content in the UK), and the distributor decides to just have one Blu-ray master to use worldwide rather than create separate ones for North America and elsewhere. I think some Doctor Who blu-ray releases converted to 60i rather than 24p, but it's still much the same thing in only wanting one global master.
