American News Presentation

NBC News Now has dropped the 7-10am UK opt-out for the Today show repeat in favour of the Sky News simulcast. A shame, but I guess they don't feel comfortable showing 19 hour-old content at the moment - and, editorially, that's probably the right call.

WPHL -TV in Philadelphia, got WPIX graphics, they were matching WPIX and KTLA with the old KCPQ -TV graphics so they are back to copying. The morning newscast is produced in house, the evenings have WPVI's graphics since that's produced by WPVI. They also kept their music too.

The WINK News logo now animates between the full size logo and a shorter W logo.

They are getting a new set in a few weeks too, very much in line with the Nexstar in-house set designs:

For reminder, the previous set dated back to 2015, when PHL relaunched its news operation for the new morning program. It was designed and built by locally-owned firm Erector Sets, and had to be packed into the very small footprint of its existing studio:

Well having looked up the new location, it feels like a huge shame for the show - although new facilities will be welcome, I'm sure. It's understandable from a business perspective.

Well the TImes Square location doesnt really make any sense anyway. Certainly not economic sense. Especially with broadcasters being squeezed. And this is a basically a Disney vanity location for the ABC network. All that for one programme always seemed like a waste. When they started using it for the extended GMA programmes....fine. But now they are getting an entire new HQ. Just consolidate everything. They rarely use the exterior facing windows. And the windows they did use always had a funny weird filter or film over them that made it look fake anyway. What a waste from when the studio was launched and it truly embraced Time Square. Its kinda eehh now.

It's not as if they are using the potential of their Times Square location anyway. Anything will be better than the current local news looking set up they have, especially the squeezed main desk part of the set.

Interesting timing though considering there have been reports lately of Disney off loading ABC.

They don’t make use of the windows so much anymore, but they do still use times square a lot. As far as back gardens go it is handy and tv friendly so it will be a disapointing loss for them. It did make me chuckle how CBS made such a big deal of moving whatever their morning show is called now to times square as if their more popular rival hasn't famously been broadcasting from there for two decades.
