I have the 2010 reissue of Planet Earth and it has the BBC Earth ident instead (which I think was very new at the time).
That's because
BBC Earth is more than just a channel, it's a brand they use across all media platforms and interactive experiences at museums and theme parks for anything related to their Natural History material.

I didn’t know they rereleased it so soon. I have the box set which I bought it back in 2008, when I bought my first Blu-ray Player. I believe Planet Earth also had an HD DVD release whilst the format war was still ongoing, which I guess in part explains why they used BBC HD idents on the discs.

I have this as well. I also have the 22 disc DVD boxset of My Family too, but for that one some of the discs, despite featuring the BBC logo (as well as the 2 Entertain logo) on the cover, actually have the VCI logo at the start - the 2 Entertain logo doesn't appear until the start of the 1st disc of the series 4 dvd, and the BBC logo itself doesn't appear until the start of the 1st disc of the series 5 dvd.

There’s BBC Earth which has the old logo still and BBC News which is using chameleon.
Had another look today whilst it’s still opaque, the DOG is smaller and better proportioned, it’s been transmitted at a really nice bitrate so the HD pictures have a nice pop to it.
I thought bbc Brit and earth would disappear but bbc earth seems to be still there.

It used presentation of the old UK BBC HD channel, with promos stating "On Board, On TV, On BBC HD".
It even looks to have its own website here: www.bbchdmaritime.com
There were no commercials and was showing even the latest episodes of EastEnders from the current week.
Seems strange to continue with the HD moniker, especially given that the TV's in the cabins on the ship I travelled on were old 720p TV's at best.
Which idents did it use?
It used all the old BBC HD idents as well as using all of its trailers, slides and DOG. No times were given on the trailers, just stating that each programme was "On Board, On TV, On BBC HD".
Also interestingly was that EastEnders was broadcast in a filmic style fading to black between scenes. I suppose it's edited in this way for particular international audiences? But did give quite a different feel to it.

A great find I do love these specialist channels produced I guess in the background at the bbc but broadcast using very specialist methods like to a cruise ship plane etc, pretty cool tbh, it must be using a specialist box to decrypt it as it’s encrypted.

By ‘old’ do you mean the original gemstones set? Or the 2009 idents with the different scenes viewed through the HD diamond? Were the idents clean or did they have announcements?
I suspect the EastEnders fades might be for foreign broadcasters to insert ads where they see fit. The filmic style is probably for the benefit of countries that don’t broadcast at 25/50fps like we do.

This was my favourite BBC HD ident. It's from 2008 and didn't last long for some reason. I really liked the dramatic music. To think we went from something like this to 'oneness' on an HD channel.

See, I never liked that one. It was obviously excellent technically, but I think it was really lacking something. I can see why it didn’t last very long. The next set was MUCH better:

I'm sure today is the first time I've ever seen the original
'gems' ident which preceded it. However, my brain is now made of dust so I may well have just forgotten seeing it.
That was also nice, but didn't last very long.
