I do think Channel 4 needs new leadership but it's a question of who would be right for the channel.

I doubt they'll ever rid of the staples like Location, Grand Designs etc because they attract viewers and no doubt if either got dropped they'd end resurfacing on another channel.

I don't see The Last Leg going anywhere especially with a general election happening in the second half of this year at the latest - also, The Last Leg is a stable show - in the same way Have I Got News For You is being used by BBC 1 - both shows have been around for ages, more so HIGNFY which has been on air since 1990 and it too seems very dull and predictable, especially with Paul Merton there, which makes it feel very dated. At least Ian Hislop gives it a bit of edge, as he doesn't give a toss what he says on air, and stands up to the MPs who appear on it.

To be honest, I don't think The Traitors would have done well on Channel 4 mainly because of the vast amount of reality competition type shows that have failed on the channel in recent years, which has made it easier for people to write off a new one without even seeing it. Being on BBC1 and also having that default audience benefited The Traitors because it had a prime slot, didn't get terrible viewing figures and people lauded it because it was the BBC and something so different for them, which wouldn't have happened if it was Channel 4.

They have a problem holding onto audiences from event TV such as Bake Off and England matches but that isn't surprising when it's stuff like Murder Island and Bangers: Mad for Cars being served up.

Rise and Fall, I can see why it's likened to The Traitors but it's more Big Brother and that's the problem - it was something that viewers had seen before. That could be said about most of C4's output, which is why it's in the dire situation it is currently.

They should get rid of Gogglebox and Bake Off instead of being held to ransom by production companies - partly C4's fault as they overpaid for the latter and people will try to take advantage - though you wonder if that would mean losing half a dozen other shows, The Piano etc which aren't easy to replace, but perhaps rival broadcasters spending money that they don't exactly have to acquire those shows could work in C4's favour in some way.

The sad reality is a "tired" show like 24 Hours in Police Custody gets 3m viewers whilst a universally acclaimed comedy like Big Boys is only getting 679k across the week.

But then I can’t believe those channels take a lot to run, either in terms of money or people.

The music channels would make sense with the decline of viewers using linear tv for music videos instead using YouTube and social media outlets to watch them, but removing entertainment channels doesn't make sense even if the Channel 4 VOD app has the majority of the shows aired on the spin-offs.

I don't really watch the US comedies but suspect some of them need to have the linear outing to allow them to make them available to stream.

I don't think the Box channels going would surprise anyone but there is a reason E4 Extra was launched last year. 4Seven has always been an oddity but probably pays for itself - think the +1 channels might go before that.

Not quite sure where C4 are in terms of switching off SD services on satellite but suspect that is part of the plan.
