That’s not the Beetham Tower on the 2007 shot, that’s the Co-op insurance tower. It does look similar from that angle though.

Fair enough and clarification accepted.

Agree this template takes inspiration from those short lived NWT titles which were culled during g the 2008 rebrand, possibly the last time BBC News managed to rebrand most elements in a single day.

Must say still a shame Sportsday got priority for the new studio over NWT, especially as for the shorter bulletins at least they seem to just use one locked off shot at the vertical screen. I imagine NWT has more viewers too based on the total national figure. Regional ratings aren't so readily available but anyone knows how it compares with Granada? The North West has always been lucky to have two fairly strong regional news programmes.

BBC North West Tonight just received the East Midlands weather forecast

What I don't understand is why NWT doesn't have the same weather forecasters as the 3 Look North bulletins?

They are presumably in a different hub grouping.

Three programmes is the same as the East/London/South East hub. Though it might be the number of radio stations involved as well that matters as the breakfast radio hits can be very intensive.

NWT is in the Midlands Group from Nottingham with EMT and Midlands Today.

The other hub groups are:

Plymouth:

Channel Islands News (shares with Spotlight at all times)
Points West
South Today
Spotlight

London:

BBC London
Look East
South East Today

Leeds:

The three branded Look North editions. Hull shares with Leeds at all times.

Technical issues at Salford this morning meaning there’s was no North West Today but we had BBC London at 7:27am and Look North from Leeds at 7:57am, the latter was acknowledged on air.

It seems surprising that as a one off they can't come up with some way for the Breakfast studio to cover NWT if there are problems (and sufficient notice)

Is there the appetite for it though? We've seen most other regions lose an opt or so, but realistically for the sake of a few 90 second and one 180 second bulletin it's hardly worth the time getting the scripts loaded into the main programme's autocue, running order etc. If it's known about ahead of time, just get CCM to route a nearby region into the failed region (NWT in this case) and have the neighbouring region give apologies as we saw through Covid with the buddy arrangements, or in the early 2000s when MHS failed and London were treated to Sharuna Sagar and Midlands Today.
