Another US sitcom that never made it to the UK was an US version of the classic BBC sitcom Till Death Us Do Part, All in the Family starring the late Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton, the series ran for 9 seasons but for some reason never took off here in the UK.

The same can be said with their spinoff The Jeffersons which ran for 11 seasons, both shows were very popular in the 1970s even referenced in Family Guy and The Simpsons at least more than once.

All In The Family was shown in the UK, BBC2 showed the first couple of seasons in the 70s. Channel 4 showed some of the sequel series Archie Bunker's Place in the 80s as well. So they were shown over here, even if they didn't take off. TBH, you can understand why shows that are basically remakes of British sitcoms didn't take off over here when we were famliar with the originals. Similar happened the other way around when we tried to remake US sitcoms that had already been shown over here for years and got popular- the Brighton Belles and Married For Life are two key examples.

The only time you can really get away with remaking US sitcoms is when we hadn't already seen the original before the remake, like with The Upper Hand (though I do remember Who's The Boss turning up on Paramount Comedy years later). Though that didn't work with Days Like These which was an embarrassing flop (whereas when we finally got That 70s Show, it was reasonably popular).

The US version of The Office seems to be an exception where a remake of one of our shows has been popular here.
