It may feature as the idents but like The Boy, Mole etc last year Tabby McTat will likely be hidden away on another day and being aimed at kids, it won't have mass appeal. I think you have to go back to the Only Fools and Horses trilogy in 1996 for a centrepiece, something that was head and shoulders above anything else in terms of people wanting to watch. There has been stuff like Mrs Brown's Boys, Gavin and Stacey that have performed well since but with an element of surprise of how well and I can't remember them being raved about beforehand to the extent that OFAH was.
I don’t know. The Royle Family felt like a centrepiece at least when it first returned, and Gavin & Stacey’s 2019 return was huge at the time - not just a “surprise” but highly trailed and anticipated in advance. Not quite the same level of “must see” as OFAH maybe, but certainly they were treated as a centrepiece of the schedule in a way very recent years seem to be missing.
