I think the AR is basically that the ElectricFriends cameras support depth tracking, so graphical elements can be overlaid and “float in space” with people able to go in front of and behind them properly as though they are real.
This could allow for things like swing graphics to appear “full height” in a wide shot of the studio, possibly alongside graphics on the real tower display. However, I doubt the BBC will be too adventurous with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the end result is just Jeremy Vine wheeling out a virtual Downing Street in Studio A (complete with it’s relatively uncanny VR) as in previous years.
