It doesn't seem to get used very much these days.
It was 2.5mill but i dont remember the last time it was used for a major announcement. It just seems so practical. The press are trying to do their job and the viewers are trying to hear.

But it seems that an ornate glass awning, befitting style of the surrounding buildings can be erected over the press area so they arent stood working in the pouring rain.
This is just wild.
