I’ll hold my judgement till Monday.
I do think out of all studios, Salford looks the best. It’s still got the curved lines, the towers look good and the big backdrop screen looks good. It’s a shame that they didn’t go for that look with B, C and E. I think E would look great in that style, just replace the backdrop screen with the live window.
It would also have scaled well for the regions and would have given the regions some character and not just the square box look.
My only issue with it is the fact that only 11 years ago £1bn was spent on NBH to bring all bbc news together under one roof. The huge price tag was justified by the bbc that bring all of the different parts of bbc news together would save money, there would be more collaboration. Whilst never announced publicly, it’s safe to assume studio B wasn’t cheap. But that’s only being used for 2’hours a day. What can be achieved in Salford that couldn’t in London?
