Sorry to be pedantic, but actually 70 Whitehall is where the main power of the Cabinet Office lies - a place I have been to a few times over the years - 9 Downing Street is actually the press office and press briefing room - where in 2020 the Johnson government spent £2.6 million on the new press briefing room, which has rarely been used.

The entire Cabinet Office building was renamed 9 Downing Street many years ago.

Any chance they might put up security features around the tempoary studios with a sturdy gate that only lets in TV crew, presenters, other staff, press ... etc, with security lanyards? All constructed in a way to ensure a certain banner waving, noise polluting, bl00dy nuisance, gets as little on-screen attention as possible, preferably none?!?

The wall to the left is grade 1 listed, so that probably can't happen - the actual green isn't protected except the statue on it, but the impact on the visibility of a G1/2 listed structure would probably lead to a planning refusal.

Never mind grade 1 listed - it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site: www.westminster.gov.uk 

The present system isn't perfect, but at the end of the day the viewer doesn't get to see the ramshackle nature of the tented encampment, and it's temporary enough that a few days' disruption to the green means it can be left undisturbed the rest of the time.

Announced live this morning on BBC Breakfast, the debate will take place on the City Campus in NTU’s Newton and Arkwright buildings.

Hosted by Mishal Husain, the special programme will air tonight at 8.15pm in front of a live TV audience who will pose questions to the Leaders of Conservative and Labour parties.

BBC News programmes throughout the day including News at One, Newsnight and News at Six will also be broadcast from Nottingham Trent University.

Up to 150 journalists from the BBC and other national and regional media outlets will be in attendance.

A number of NTU students from the Centre for Broadcasting & Journalism are supporting the BBC throughout the day as runners, and our student publications are also attending to report on the day’s events as accredited journalists.

There are currently no MPs. There is no elected Parliament, so very little point standing outside a largely empty building for a news report unless they intend to interview the staff doing maintenance work.

The Government still only exists because they hold Crown appointments. The 'seat of power' is technically the Cabinet Office at 9 Downing Street. They keep the wheels turning until 5 July, but without any actual power. Civil Servants follow rules until someone issues different ones.

It's the place where they are hoping to sit, so to have that in full view is exactly why they go live from that location.
