Bit of a ‘get’ (or seems to be) for ITV West Country tonight with Sunak appearing to rule out a May 2nd election.

And just 12 days to find out if it held true…

I take it only BBC and Sky will have overnight corvage of the local elections ln May? Still make me wonder where the BBC set will be based?

I suspect they're still banking on it being a general election.

The speculation has now turned to 10th October. It would be one hell of a turn around if he come out of no10 and goes surprise..

Nobody else has really done proper locals coverage in years, so it'd be surprising for anybody other than the BBC and Sky to be doing overnight programmes.
I would presume BBC local election coverage will come from Studio B - other than the 2022 locals (when it was out of commission), it has been home of BBC election coverage since the 2019 locals and they'll want an extra on-air run-through ahead of the general election.
The interesting election question, for me, is whether the BBC do anything for the Euros. Obviously, it's the first since Brexit and I don't expect anything on network, but will it get a special on the NC? They're increasingly a big deal and it will almost certainly involve one of the UK media's favourite tropes of European elections (gains by populist right), but coverage of Europe's results was very much an afterthough on pre-Brexit programmes and Euro politics isn't really something the BBC are that into.

Local elections feel like a big story for GB News and an opportunity for them to prepare for the GE.

He seemed very definitive but then again, this is politics.
GB News have stayed up all night for the by elections, which I can only assume was test run for the general election. They might do the same this year.

For the upcoming general election, (whenever that will happen in 2024) - I am sure BBC will just continue to use Studio B at BBC Broadcasting House, as they did for the 2019 election - the era of using the vast studio design is now gone and I don't see them using BBC Elstree Studio D, which they used for the 2015 and 2017 elections and the 2016 referendum coverage.
ITV will no doubt just use Studio 1 at ITN, their regular studio with a bit enlarged set, which they have been doing for 2015, 2017 and 2019 elections and the 2016 referendum.

They spent so much money turned Elstree D into an "election hub" only to seemingly stop using it after a couple of years (and of course they studio will be gone from the BBC entirely later in the year anyway).

I suspect they moved a lot of the "election hub" equipment from Elstree to BBC Broadcasting House - BBC downsizing and also, the era of huge studios for general elections are now long gone
ITV News showed the BBC, you didn't need to have a massive 10,000 Sq Ft studio filled with a massive set, to bring a good election night broadcast, as ITV News since the 2005 general election have used their regular basement studio for general elections, with a little help now and again from their atrium.
