Probably not but I presume they can request a copy:

What actually goes on in the automation, why did it go wrong when the channels launched in 2002 and what did they do to circumvent it? I remember reading that there was an early closedown on CBBC & CBeebies but that's about it.
Its basically a reconfiguration of the platforms that the channels broadcast on so that the video stops going out on one channel number and reappears on another. AIUI they just change the ID numbers and names of the services in the DVB stream.

In terms of what happens to the channel itself, at 1858ish it fades to black and then at 1900ish the new channel starts

It's automatic and happens twice a day on every version of the BBCs multiplexes - so each region of PSB1 and 3 and on satellite. There are other daily config changes, for example In Scotland and Wales channels like Alba and S4C are switched on and off. Engineers on duty check that these happen correctly

No idea why it went wrong in the early days, presumably just because it was new and they were still learning. It's a totally different set up now though

Do we know if ITV plc still/ever did own the trademarks to the logos of the old franchisees?

Just saw this on Twitter and wondering how it can be used/modified seemingly without any legal issues.

They would have at least owned the trademarks to Granada, Carlton, and their subsidiaries at the time the merger occured in 2002, as well as UTV (which they are still using, of sorts) and Channel which were acquired later. That would include LWT.

However they would never have owned the trademarks to the companies that lost their franchises prior to 1992, like Thames, TVS, TSW etc. (ATV might be an exception to that, but I’m not sure on that one, as while I’ve seen it suggested that it’s parent company ACC held on to the ATV brand when Central was created, I’ve also seen it suggested Carlton acquired that at a later date. Someone here will know better on that one).

I seem to remember reading ACC got rid of anything to do with ATV as there was a boardroom coupe to get rid of Lew Grade. Pretty sure Carlton over time bought everything and then some more to do with Central including the previous branding, and then went and bought ITC Entertainment as well which had been become separated somewhere down the line.

Yeah, ITV plc owns all of the 1993 franchise brands except Scottish and Grampian which of course are owned by STV, and ITV do have ATV as well since Central was basically them rebranded.

This is the same person who was selling transphobic stickers with the NHS logo on them, so I doubt the legalities have been looked into too far.

It looks like they do have a trademark for LWT in that style which has passed to ITV Broadcasting Ltd.

But trademarks are limited to specific categories of goods and service so this may not have fallen foul either way.

The pertinent point there is who led the boardroom coup - Robert Holmes a Court. He was Australian and the IBA weren’t happy to have a non-UK citizen control an ITV company, so ACC were forced to sell the 51% of Central they still owned after the restructuring of ATV. They held on to ITC, but that was sold to Polygram later, and from there eventually to Carlton.
