I’m sure it was clearly listed in TV Times and back in those days every household would have had a Christmas TV listings magazine in front of them no doubt
But yes these days it would be seen as cheapening the royal broadcast, making almost just a part of a Corrie storyline. I wonder if there was this sort of outcry back in 1991
It was a clever idea mind, a bit before it’s time to be honest, I’d have expected it post 1993

That would have been Charles Foster voicing the announcement into the speech itself.
Almost feels like it was a last minute afterthought to at least separate both programmes.

I saw both the Granada Plus and ITV3 repeats of this, and they both handled it differently- Granada Plus swapped around the scenes with Alf turning on the TV and Mike & Alma in the cafe and put in an ad break, ITV3 left those scenes in order but cut out the scene of Alf turning the TV off. The G+ airing also had a different piece of music on Alf's TV rather than the 1989 ITV generic music heard here (and on ITV3).
Hang on a minute - if they're turning on the TV to ITV (as we can tell by the ident music), what's on ITV in Coronation Street when Coronation Street's on?

Makes me think of that moment in the live episodes of Two Pints when Janet/Sheridan Smith is channel hopping:
"I've just put BBC Three on, and... Oh, doesn't matter."

Considering how strict broadcasting rules are around royal content and royal events (even now) I'm surprised they got away with it. Indeed more surprised the regions let them get away with it as presumably introducing the Queens Speech would be something of a bucket list moment for continuity announcers (more so then than now), though perhaps they just took the view it gave them half an hour off for their Christmas dinner.

There was an episode of Emmerdale where we saw a TV guide, and "Castle Bridge" was on ITV at 7pm. Probably some other fictional show was on in Corrie land.

Early on in EastEnders Arthur Fowler appeared on a game show called Cat and Mouse, I assume that's what's on in Walford at 7:30
Incidently they also did a similar thing to Coronation Street and bookended Big Ben calling in Midnight on New Years Eve

I remember when Drama showed that episode, we (well, on the blue place anyway) did a comparison between Drama's version and the original BBC1 broadcast and found things didn't quite match (can't remember what the differences were exactly though).
