I had to share this - the last glimpse of the BBC1 mirror globe, Midlands edition, with a bonus look at the Pebble Mill equivalent of Noddy.

Also includes a trail for the first edition of Wogan and the first appearance of the COW. Starts at 31m30
It looks like there's a mirror arrangement to allow one camera to shoot both the clock and globe, anyone know how that worked? There are definitely closedowns that involved both models. I'm guessing lighting might be part of it.

So much to unpack in that video. Very pleasing to see the ATV promo with the music that later became the BBC Midlands Today theme.

Mirrors, I think.
The mirror in front of the camera rotates towards to reflect a mirror below the camera, so the image from the globe would be mirrored, but the mirror looking at the mirror turns it the right way around when seen by the camera, not too dissimilar to how autocues work.
The clock, the mirror is simply out of the way.

That's what I was thinking, bit there doesn't appear to be any mechanism for lifting the mirror out of the way for the clock, and I've certainly seen Midlands closedowns which use both in close succession.
Could it be as simple as only one model being lit at any one time and the camera aperture being set so it only "sees" very bright areas?

I’ve been greatly amused recently by Daniel Maier’s spoof early 00s EastEnders introductions (complete with Rhythm and Movement idents).

You know, I could imagine Al Duprés at BBC Wales using some (not all) of those lines into EastEnders

VCRBase in Hong Kong found the breakdown caption used during ATV’s infamous studio fire in 1987:
The fire put a halt to all the operations in the station, to the point that their competitor, TVB, offered them offices and equipment to keep broadcasting. This is the news report from English-speaking ATV Diamond, made from the remaining newsrooms unscathed from the fire:

Always fascinating watching puppeteers do their thing so this is a joy. This is behind the scenes of Dodge and Hacker on Cbeebies.
The highlight is seeing how they do the dog legs
