That is interesting, as I heard that this was the reason Heartstopper was made exclusive for Netflix. There were rumours that Channel 4 would make it, as it is well known as being a channel with strong pro LGBTQ+ which I really love, but the creator and writer of Heartstopper Alice Oseman wanted full control over what was seen on screen, so maybe Channel 4 wasn't going to give her that freedom in the same way.

As a side note ITV are favourite to buy All3Media, which owns Studio Lambert.

It's an interesting idea - I guess ITV wanted to make the Friday 9pm slot stronger? Plus it would've been quite amusing considering Channel 4 has poached Taskmaster & GBBO in recent years.
Would've been a big gap in their schedules though, it fills about 40 Friday's a year now?

The version of events that I've heard is that the Gogglebox came up for renewal last year and ITV and C4 had an all-out bidding war; now C4 are paying significantly more than they were previously.
Supposedly as part of this deal they guaranteed Studio Lambert three reality commissions of which Rise and Fall was the first. Can't be sure of this though there was a period last year when C4 very suddenly stopped development on quite a few reality projects they had at the time.

Surprised ITV weren't willing to do a similar deal, and use ITV2 to try out any new Studio Lambert formats?
Rise & Fall had potential and I think it's a shame if they don't get a second series to try and iron out some of the issues. The Circle was better in its second run.

ITV Friday night at 9pm is weak as water - they simply give up after Corrie and they really need a kick up the arse in that part of the schedule. I feel ITV will poach something from Channel 4 very soon.

I just can't see it working as an ITV programme. Whether that's because of a deep-rooted association with Channel 4, I don't know, but I just can't see it. It would probably fit better on ITV2 but I can't see the audience numbers flocking there.

Well ITV have got a Channel 4 show - Deal or No Deal is returning, in fact it is currently being recorded in the Dock10 studios in Salford as we speak, so just being a Channel 4 show doesn't mean ITV can't find a place for it.
