Was thinking actually over the last couple of weeks how easy a Wimbledon Centre Court lens ident could be made with mowing, playing and perhaps celebrating as the three components.
Sadly these C5 idents although well done just highlight how idents only really function as additional promotion now.

Yep - these two aired in parallel:

Anyone noticed something odd before they fade to black transition on Channel 5 this evening? (16/07/23)
Seems that there was a brief flash of black before the transition, noticed this when I was watching 'Million Pound Motorhomes' tonight.

The trouble is, to get the matched motion effect between the different lens elements, you’d need to get this whacking great thing onto Centre Court.
So they’ve boxed themselves into a corner with these idents, as it’s not very easy to create them in house. At least in the days of the balloon, it was fairly easy to edit it into some existing footage to create some special idents at low cost.

It's unusual that Centre Court doesn't have any sort of 'Zip Wire Camera' (SkyCam) as is common in many stadia.
That could certainly be used to create a lens ident by using pre-programmed moves for different shots.

Centre Court is a lot smaller in person than it look on screen, it would be quite hard to get a zip wire camera like that in easily.

Main problem with a spider cam or wirecam at centre court is the closing roof - there's very little height between the audience and the bottom of the roof mechanisms. Also those sorts of camera are terrible for repeatability - they're not designed as a motion control system.
However, a motion control curved track could easily be carried in and give you the exact same effect as with the crane.

I’ve also seen some other bits on Pentagram’s Vimeo too, which are just the logo, a promo mock-up on a CGI phone, and 2 animated social templates. I guess this is just for Channel 5 on social media, but I don’t know what’ll happen to the main channel.

They've already been running print ads in that style for at least a few weeks. I thought nothing of it as it matches a daytime promo they did not long ago on social media.
