CITV is to close

Watching that video above, I didn’t realise Sky sold their originals to any other UK Broadcaster to show?

Also looking at the ITV2 schedule? It’s clearly some streaming hack to get these shows on ITVX? As it’s 4 different versions of Scooby Doo & Looney Tunes? No original classics like Mr Bean or Dave Spudd.

Lest we forget that a CITV strand on ITV2 also existed 2 decades back around the Gas Street era (I think there used to be examples of it on TVARK)

It also continued into the early years of the CITV Channel before it moved to ITV4.

Just the usual Programmes start at 9pm MHEG caption at the moment and no daytime content scheduled all week.   The CITV is closed MHEG caption on CITV too, so currently the stream is unused.

What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

Bit of a branding mess really isn't it, feels like there is no joined up thinking at all.

I don't suppose that the kids TV strand on ITV2 works being branded as ITVX Kids so CITV remains.

The CITV brand could have easily become the streaming destination and still worked for broadcast. Or changing it to just ITV Kids would have worked for both.

I'm not very clued up on this but CITV was played out by Erricson in Chiswick like the other ITV digital channels I believe (?) so the equipment will all still be in use as before.

They presumably didn't update the logo because it didn't need to be and it's not with doing for a few hours a day

That all follows except for the fact that we have already seen that the network-wide rebrand did, in fact, have ITV Kids branding prepared. At one point, most likely, this was intended to be for a rebranded CITV channel but it could easily have been used for this new service to “fit in better” with ITV 2.

It seems that they decided to keep CITV instead due to the aforementioned nostalgia wave, which was probably a smart move. It’s somehow apt for an old brand to live on to fulfil an old contractual obligation!
