Are there Ofcom rules that would put them in breach for making those type of derogatory comments?

Assuming this was the case it does rather beg the question of why this wasn't challenged or apologised for during Dan's programme, even if later on.

Ideally Dan should have intervened during the interview. Failing that someone on the production team (or GB News management) should have flagged it up immediately, so that it could be addressed before the end of Dan's programme.
It's perhaps notable that GB News' apology tweet (or whatever the X equivalent is) came at 11.51pm, with Ava Evans' initial tweet that included the clip being at 10.09pm (which so far as had 10.3M views).
I think it's reasonable to speculate that someone at GB News saw the strong negative reaction (or that clip) online and realised they needed to act fast to limit the damage.
Given the recent and ongoing OFCOM investigations they had little choice but to deal with it. They've also had to recently respond to the House of Commons media committee question regarding Dan Wootton, on a different matter. With current politicians presenting on the channel neither those politicians or the channel would want to risk more questions being asked by parliament about this incident, which would increase the longer they waited to act.

That’s presumably Richard Tice’s regular gig sorted then.
Tice does come across as a poor man’s Farage though and lacks his sort of ‘man of the people’ image.

Rule 2.1Generally Accepted Standards
Rule 2.3 Context and Information - Offensive Language, Discriminatory Language
This matter is bigger than any rule breach though hence the panic from GBN and Wootton; there is a massive risk they won't be left with any advertisers after last night's sh8t show.
Being considered by a majority as "too far on the right" is sufficient for some advertisers to not buy airtime but many don't care. Broadcasting something like that is a different kettle of fish. No one wants their brand to be associated with that.

Very unlikely he will be back considering the tweets of various staff of GB news this morning.

and b) Wootton found the interview amusing despite his public denial:

Surely the biggest crisis the channel has faced since launch.
It's a simply tasteless and disgusting piece of broadcasting, abuse directed towards one named individual. If GB News wish to be taken seriously, they need to clean up their act.

I think if Laurence Fox isn't coming back then Richard Tice is probably a highly likely contender to take over given he's recently joined and he'll then get a prominent slot. He's on the right but isn't as controversial as Fox.

If the screenshots are correct, then even after the incident the attitude towards on-air standards and controlling guests seemed to be 'it's the gallery's problem'.
