Surely current affairs is news programming, especially on a news channel where they're discussing the news of the day.

I suspect that's part of the reason why at the top of the hour they have the news headlines read out by a separate person, from a different part of the set. That way they can state that part is the 'news' section, and that it is clearly distinguished from the rest of the current affairs / opinion programming.

Precisely, this was explained by a GBNews presenter who appeared on BBC Newscast yesterday.

They allege that Dan Wootton was told on talkback to reign Laurence Fox in which he didn't, then an apology was drafted which Dan refused to read on-air by skipping it on the autocue. They then allege senior management called Dan to get him to apologise and still refused.
If that really is the case, then there are grounds for dismissal.
Although the stuff Popbitch reports does tend to be fairly accurate.
If it is the true then it does make sense why this was what ended his time at GB News.
One thing though - he did apologise online afterwards (even though that might have been less sincere than it first seemed) so obviously was talked into it, or paniced, once off air.
There's a phrase he probably knows from his Fleet Street days - reverse ferret

Calvin Robinson has now been suspended by GB News after tweeting in support of Dan Wootton.
They are going to have a lot of slots to fill soon.

Calvin Robinson says he’s the third person to be suspended after tweeting earlier he was boycotting the Dan Wootton slot in protest at the channel’s treatment of him, accusing bosses of being “scared” of the “woke mob”:

Neil Oliver Live could just go back to being 2 hours, as that's where Calvin's slot came from.

If they are going to suspend even those giving an opinion about the event then perhaps the channel should crash and burn because it largely defeats the purpose of its existence. All very odd.

Is that really the route they'd want to go down given the presenters they've just suspended?
This is a golden opportunity for them to go down the route they've gone down in daytime (as in proper news, debate and analysis) across the whole schedule. It'll be disappointing if they don't.
