Third most viewed show on television, including number one scripted show, as well as being 1.5 million up on Whitaker/Chibnall? No denying that the refresh worked, at least to begin with. Now to see whether they only tuned in for Tennant, though...
Also, worth remembering that - while these haven't reached the peak figures of the original Tennant-era - even Series 4 only averaged 8m. Considering the general decline in TV audiences over the last 15 years, the audience fall is pretty remarkably tiny.

I think the Christmas special for 2023 will be interesting to see how the ratings will do for that - the last time Doctor Who had a Christmas Day special was in 2017 when the 12th doctor regenerated into the 13th in "Twice Upon A Time" which pulled in 5.7 million overnight audience with a consolidated 7.92 million.
If Ncuti as the 15th doctor can get around the 4 to 5 million overnight figure for Christmas Day 2023, it would be fantastic.
In the few moments we saw Ncuti's 15th doctor in "The Giggle", I really liked him. His energy is great and really feels like a burst of much needed new energy into the show. And that wonderful smile just lights up the screen.

Worth saying that especially with drama it goes beyond the 7 day numbers now with broadcasters increasingly looking at the 28 day numbers (which sadly BARB stopped publishing publicly a couple of years back). It’s pretty common for dramas to add over a million between 7 and 28 days, and Russell T Davies has suggested that the first special is now at 9 million.

Only an hour to go. For once I will watch it as it's broadcast, only because I want to see if the 'press Red Button for UHD' happens.
I would like to see it in UHD on my TV.
If it doesn't work, I've still got my back up recording in HD.

The BBC logo now animates in line with Chameleon instead of fading in the intro.
What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

They've been releasing the episodes in UHD straight after the initial broadcast - I assume tonight's was the same? If so, there wouldn't be a red button prompt.

iPlayer needs a bit of a tidy up!
Quick search for 'Doctor Who' and you'll only reach the 2005 - 2022 episodes
You have to do a full search to find 'Doctor Who (2023-)' and also 'Doctor Who (1963-1996)'

Richard Franklin, who played UNIT's Captain Mike Yates during the 1970s, has sadly died.

Weirdly, the Disney+ version didn't play the mid-credits scene as a mid-credits scene. Doesn't work as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ncuti's first full episode as the Doctor. The programme seems to be returning to form. It will be interesting to see the overnights for this episode if anyone has access.
It was a rather nice, fun fantasy episode with some goblins, a link to Christmas, even a bit of singing and dancing thrown in for a laugh, and some amazing SFX.
RTD is certainly making No.15 different to previous incarnations, which is really making the most of a central character that can change.
Of course, this morning the anti-BBC commentators on the DM's forum have launched into a tirade about 'wokery'. I don't know what's 'woke' about goblins.
