Some of the earliest appearances - infact, quite possibly the first night - of the Central cake making up the bulk of this compilation from August - September 1985.

Does anyone know if Central's cake idents were all produced in-house, or did they outsource any of the work?
I'm thinking that only three years prior to this, Channel 4's flying blocks had to be rendered in America due to lack of suitable facilities over here. Admittedly, those early cake idents did look a bit more basic and less polished than C4's blocks, so maybe by then things had advanced a bit over here?

Looks like the first day of the Cake being used as an ident but not the first day the Cake was being used, there is clips for that week of 26th - 30th were the cake appears in the promos. talk about confusing.

Though the old Central globe was still in use on frontcaps and endcaps for another 3 years after this.

From memory I recall seeing the globe logo in print on Central Video VHS releases after 1988, maybe even into the 1990s.

fanoftv mentioned in the Central to Carlton thread that Central News and CiTV swapped studios in January 2000, which immediately led me to hunt out this clip of the first day of the best set CiTV ever had. Plus the best set of presenters, and idents. What you are about to see is partly what sparked my interest in TV pres:

The launch - and the first hour or so - of TV3, including a tongue-in-cheek launch show and the first news programme (brazenly scheduled up against RTE's Six One until it was split into two programmes at 5.30pm and 7pm)

The start up sequence, the first and probably best thing the station ever did, actually lasted all the way up to 2018 - 22 years - until the rebrand as VMTV. Unfortunately the launch show that followed after was nothing short of embarrassing.
