BBC News Channel/BBC World News Merger

With the new touchscreens being installed in the newsroom, I feel like they're trying to bring back the old OS touch screen gimmick and integrate it into the regular bulletins... The touchscreen gimmick has been controversial for years back in the TVF era.

I wonder what was the chicken and what was the egg for OS:

did Ros Atkins move to Analysis editor role because Outside Source was due to meet the axeman for some time,

or did the BBC top brass close Outsude after it did not fly well with other presenters after Ros moved away from everyday presenting?

Also, they initially started OS both on WN and WS with the intention of creating "one product for two media", they even aired initially at the same time. Now James Reynolds, back in the UK, says that the program moved back into the Newsroom, first time after the pandemic. At least that one is safe for now

I can recall that some papers previously said the relaunched channel will show of how BBC journalists verify footages… Maybe that’s where they do this segment.

I personally like touchscreens in news programmes but I accept many others don’t.

As one of the few BBC clips that occasionally popped up on my social media feeds even if I don't follow the BBC nor anyone working there I have to say it was a resounding success in that regard. The explainers Ros Atkins did were always great.

I would imagine these new display/touchscreen panels are related to the new BBC News 'Forensic Hub' which the Beeb made a brief reference to earlier today.

Also, just to add to the numerous observations of weird crashes, timing issues, and other gremlins plaguing the BBC News Channel in recent days: at the 2000 TOTH, with around nine seconds of the countdown remaining, the NC suddenly crashed into the the Outside Source titles, with no audio for the first couple of seconds before it suddenly cut in. And speaking of no audio, here's a GIF:

Anyway, not sure how that timing error occurred -- how does the NC countdown end up hitting the top of the hour with nine seconds still to go?

And the first and only on air mention of the 'new BBC News channel' coming next week.

The Context with Christian Fraser (with Kasia Madeira) finished with a thank you to the team behind the programme, though not quite an acknowledgment that it was the last edition.

Because it is not quite the last? May be the last for this team as it is now - since the next week begins there will be all somewhat new behind-the-studio teams, rearranged and mixed. But the Context as a show stays and expands to two hours.
