I guess it's possible that the nature of the C4 operation meant that the sync was closer to being in sync than on ITV so the switch was less visible. For example opportunities for the regional C4 suite to genlock sync to the incoming feed. A round trip via TV-am at the London end might add the same kind of delay as a round trip via the ITV station at the other end so the two versions end up roughly in sync.

Also noticed on that video that the caption for supporting material after the clock looks like it's either a slide or a physical caption (looks more like the latter), 1992 seems very late for that.

Or, did Channel 4's playout receive Channel 4 Daily + ads via TV-am, and that TV-am source was a genlocked source on the playout desk - hence no switching? Assuming, the ads were broadcast nationally.

TV-am ads were national after the first few weeks/months weren't they? Can't imagine they'd have regionalised the playout of ads just for C4.

I wonder if C4 simply played out the adverts sold by TV-am themselves, and the switch to the regions occurred after schools programmes?

Would that have required the regions to be actively monitoring it tho? If not, I agree that seems likely.

No more than BBC regions actively monitored the network feed looping through their building when they were "out of circuit"?

ITV Schools on Channel 4 was played out by Channel 4. and the programmes such as Story World Picture Box and Readabout were all played out by Channel 4. That's why Channel 4 Schools air old episodes of a ITV Schools programme because all the Programmes were sent to Channel 4 such as Thames TV etc

They won't have aired them just because they "had" them, they'd still have had to pay for them to air.  Even if they were schools programmes.

Remember prior to 1993 those programmes were all made for ITV Schools, with more regional input to boot as well, as to what was made.  The companies had more input into the output as it were up until the end of the 1980s but they still owned those programmes.

Before 1993 the waters are muddied - Channel 4 was acting as effectively ITV2, that's why the Schools slot was branded as ITV Schools.
