Wall to wall coverage only on One and News should be fine - Two, Three (which wasn't on air when Philip died) and Four should be offering alternative programming.

Won’t happen I’m afraid. This is going to be one of the biggest days in the BBC’s history as they will also be broadcasting the news to the world. The death of the monarch is also a very news heavy event, far more so than the death of a consort, because there is immediately a new monarch who will be able proclaimed and then will address the nation etc. So the simulcasting will probably go on longer than ‘last time’

If it doesn't exist now, they probably are going to deal with that theme soon.

Switching studios isn’t as simple as you think in this scenario

For starters BBC One is taking the network TX feed so you need to coordinate with network controllers to ask One to switch to Studio B at a designated time with the NC

Secondly you probably need at another gallery crew to setup, since the current on duty NC crew is on air - which I’m not sure if they have a spare crew on standby in breaking news situations like currently…

The end goal is to get information out quickly, so it’s best to keep things simple

A second gallery crew in itself shouldn't be too much of an issue given the NC and World are currently in an unscheduled simulcast meaning the world crew would essentially be free to get another studio on air. The bigger issue from that perspective would be whether either of the duty crews are trained on B given NC and World are yet to come from B outside of BBC1 simulcast.

The bigger issue is getting Huw from one studio to another mid rolling news. They don't have a package they can go to while he goes down two floors.
They do have packages always done in preparation though?

Or the switch to the new studio would occur on a change of presenter if Huw has been on for so long.

Maybe at Six if they are still going on with prolonged coverage?

If they really wanted to move studio it would not be difficult to get the presenter who should have been doing the News Channel to take over for five minutes with a summary of the days other news.

They wouldn't want to risk putting many of those who have been presenting on the news channel recently on air in the current situation so it may not be that simple. I'd have thought the most likely course of action at this point would be for Ben Brown to take back over in E at either 4 or 5 in order for Huw to get ready for the six and ten (and quite possibly whoever was originally scheduled to present those then taking over for the evening).

Respectfully I disagree. Anybody who is presenting on the News Channel must be a safe enough pair of hands to deal with the early stages of an obit as Martine did. To suggest that they can't be trusted to do a simple bulletin of the day's other news while Huw moves studio is frankly insulting.

Why should they move studios? We barely get to see Huw plus Nick is with him there and the newsroom looks normal, not too crowded, just not as empty as it has been last 2 years.

That’s quite interesting, that tweet. I’d heard independently from another source she might have died already. Hmm.
