HM Queen Elizabeth Dies & Funeral Coverage

BBC cutting away too frequently to the talking heads for my liking.

ITV making good use of picture in picture.

Agreed. I don't actually understand why they need a studio far away for this at all, Sky are doing fine with commentary over the top of the pool pictures

did anyone have any tip off prior to the 630 announcement? I read somewhere that HM passed away in the afternoon - how early did all the broadcasters know and to be ready for it?

We know for sure Liz Truss was told at 4:30pm that was reported, but Im fairly sure the broadcasters were only told a few minutes before 6:30.

Notable that the BBC have cancelled Radio 2 Live next weekend, presumably out of respect but also more likely to free up resources for coverage elsewhere.

Although when the palace told broadcasters about the initial poor health they were also told to prepare for the moment?

I wouldn’t think so - I’d imagine broadcasters recieved exactly the same statement as we did.

Fascinatingly, someone who was apparently the text operator on the NC lower third that shift was tweeting in response to a Twitter upload of the announcement, and in response to my query in this direction he claimed that even in that gallery they only heard for sure with the tweet.

If the NC gallery really didn't know at 1829 I'd have to presume nobody in the media did.

This is absolutely fascinating thanks for this well spotted! It differs from when Prince Phillip died as that came out of nowhere and Martine Croxall had to change into black whilst presenting out of vision which was remarkable. The broadcasters this time we’re in obit/standby from 230

What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.
