Why are those standards differences even still a thing post-digital switchover? They should've used the opportunity to create one global default that works worldwide.

The biggest problem is that relatively few manufacturers can be bothered to add 50hz support to US TVs and players, even if the exact same model in the UK supports it. In theory there's nothing else stopping 50hz from being a universally compatible format, like 60hz is.

Except 60hz only exists in UHD ....
Everywhere else it is divided by 1001/1000 ...
Which means that there is never and integral number of frames in a natural time period
It could have been got rid of at HD / Digital but the stations never quite "got" standards Conversion
And the TV sets did not normally have component input.... Europe of course was RGB SCART .

They're putting The Doctor back in The Big Brother house once again I'd guess...

That 'leak' has been doing the rounds on forums for months and I'd be quite amazed if it had any legitimacy. I'm not sure if the brand new, international BBC/Disney+ era would kick off with a pastiche of an ITV genealogy show  Big Grin

Now that the Sun have reported it with quotes, I think the Davina rumours are true

A source said Davina welcomes Ruby on to a genealogy show, like her ITV programme Long Lost Family, as she seeks her birth parents. But in a bizarre twist, the host later gets crushed by a falling Christmas tree.

The source said: “The Christmas special is a huge deal for the BBC — this year especially so, as it’s Ncuti and Millie’s first. The Davina storyline is one element of the big festive episode on the table.”

Earlier this year, script editor Scott Handcock said “a guest star from 2005” would return for the special.

Davina provided the voice of the Davinadroid in an episode called Bad Wolf in 2005.

As the 2005 series proves, Davies has no qualms about mentioning non-BBC programmes, like Big Brother in Davina's previous appearance. As such, if that storyline is true, then I would expect Long Lost Family to be mentioned by name. It's not a pastiche.
