KCAL’s new morning show is on-air today, at the best possible moment to get some viewership: record breaking severe weather is impacting Southern California and the station is focusing the first show to news and Next Weather team coverage. This same situation got KTLA into the hotspot back in 1992, when its morning news went from none to big ratings winner as viewers began switching to 5 thanks to the lack of live coverage by the network affiliates.

Still, the new broadcast has had some first day teething problems, including faulty audio at times, picture quality issues and the previous CBSN Local ticker being used for a while on the streaming network until disappearing. The open retains Brian Lee as V/O.
A graphical pull-out replaced the programme DOG later on the show, featuring Next Weather radar images live in the corner. It is also being used by KPIX.
Finally, NewscastStudio published a sizzle with the new CBS News Local themes, which are replacing the Enforcer at the O&Os; the themes were all composed by Antfood (which also did the CBS mnemonic).
