It was certainly an unusual morning for the Today show yesterday, after Savannah came off air.
At 7.30 it was just Sheinelle and Al at the desk, joined later (as usual) by Carson Daly.
The desk, unusually, disappeared by the end of the 7am hour, with everyone sitting on stools in the corner with the window instead. Then Willie Geist (who was presumably doing Morning Joe on MSNBC at 30 Rock) was drafted in to co-host the 8am news block with Sheinelle - again on stools.
As unusual as that all was, they did a great job and the content didn't seem to be affected at all.
