It is real: KYW is getting the KDKA treatment for the new O&O graphics, which debut today. A KYW producer, Brandon Giesing, which contributes to TVNewsTalk.net gave a preview of their adaptation from a rehearsal of a 11pm newscast. No new weather graphics for now.

So they've dropped the Helvetica 3 for a squarer 3, put the new numeral besides the eye, then stuff it in a square box? Not a fan of that, but otherwise looks better than KDKA V1.

“We also recognized we couldn’t just completely get rid of the three,” said [Kelly] Frank, while noting that channel numbers mean something different in the world of streaming. “We knew that there was recognition and affinity and value in that three… We needed to maintain that tip of the hat, that legacy, that homage to the iconic three. So we kept it and made sure that it was married to the CBS brand.”

The thumbnail on the Youtube channel also refreshed for the new look: A rounded green rectangle, stacked 3 and CBS News Philadelphia wordmark in a dark blue bubble.

In another news: Aside from the BBC, NPR was also classified as "government-funded media" on Twitter, leading to them exiting the platform in protest. In their own words:

By going silent on Twitter, NPR's chief executive says the network is protecting its credibility and its ability to produce journalism without "a shadow of negativity."

"The downside, whatever the downside, doesn't change that fact," NPR CEO John Lansing said in an interview. "I would never have our content go anywhere that would risk our credibility."

In a BBC interview posted online Wednesday, Musk suggested he may further change the label to "publicly funded." His words did not sway NPR's decision makers. Even if Twitter were to drop the designation altogether, Lansing says the network will not immediately return to the platform.

"At this point I have lost my faith in the decision-making at Twitter," he says. "I would need some time to understand whether Twitter can be trusted again."

NPR is instituting a "two-week grace period" so the staff who run the Twitter accounts can revise their social-media strategies. Lansing says individual NPR journalists and staffers can decide for themselves whether to continue using Twitter.
