WAVY has unveiled its new set and graphics. The graphics look cheap (unlike the other Rey Rodriguez designs for Nexstar), but the set looks very impressive and much more up-to-date compared to their previous set, even if the designs are clearly based in Nexstar design elements. Their well-known Newswire theme has survived the changes too (although we might not discard a future switch to a Stephen Arnold Music package, like they did recently with WOOD, which dropped Primetime News last year in favor of Stream, leaving the Spectrum Florida channels as sole holdovers):

The set was, indeed, done by Nexstar's in-house scenic shop (led by Arkansas contractor Lance Schroeder, working with a team based at WKRN in Nashville). A very long way for them indeed, the long-term design support by FX Design Group has really helped them to improve their designs from these infamous Dalek Desk looks (FX is reportedly supporting Nexstar's design teams in this, whilst designing sets for their larger stations in their portfolio).

And, surprisingly, the graphics were not done by Rey Rodriguez, but are the job of the station's in-house creative services department. Yes, they still look quite cheap and cheesy, but I am surprised the in-house CSD did this. It is nowadays rare to see an entire CSD working on its main graphics package, given the trend is to increasingly outsource production to third-parties and even the company-wide corporate graphics hubs.
