BBC Local Radio

Radio Merseyside are extending their weeknight 6pm sports show (on non-match nights) to two hours from September - hosted by Paul Salt (ex-Radio City Sport), whose announced his departure from Breakfast this morning.

Manchester has also adopted the 'Total Sport' brand for their output (though I've never understood why they felt it necessary to have a phone-in that concentrates almost exclusively on City and United each weeknight)

Another departure from local radio, this time DJ Stephen Bumfrey, who has left the BBC after 43 years (14 of which presenting the afternoon show for Radio Norfolk).

I am gutted about this.  BBC Music Introducing it such a jewel in the BBC crown.  No one does it better than the BBC.  In my opinion the new show covers to many areas and it will lose that special personal edge.  My view is Introducing should remain local but be on for 60 mins weekly.  Then make it a podcast on BBC Sounds.  Even replay some of the shows in the early hours on BBC Radio 1.  Some of the biggest shows 16-24s catch up on on BBC Sounds is new music shows.  GIVE THEM A BETTER PLATFORM!  BBC Local should had over the money it spends on BBC Music Introducing and give it to another department at the BBC that will look after it.  How these guys in charge of BBC Local still have a job is unbelievable. Clearly suck ups who pine after Tim's job.  BBC Local need looking at but have some imagination and keep your strengths for goodness sake!

The stations across the East are among the first to begin sharing programming between stations in the afternoons and evenings according to the online schedules, from 4th September.  Oxford and Berkshire also begin their afternoon share on that same date, and Cornwall and Devon have already started.

Apparently she'll be presenting a regional show across the West of England from Radio Bristol.

Isn’t BBC Sounds the best platform for this?

Yes, for next week according the schedules it's the Northampton presenter Akylah Rodriguez 'sitting in' for 3CR's Roberto Perrone by presenting across both stations.  The following week looks to be the 'official' start of their joint afternoon show with Roberto Perrone on both stations.

Louise Hulland is listed as presenting in that slot in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, while somehow Essex gets special treatment and gets to stay local in the afternoon.

To be fair, Essex having its own show in the afternoon has always been the plan.
