I'm hardly a fan of sending anchors to a location unless it serves a purpose. That being said... I think yesterday's decision may have been driven as much by 'political' factors as much as the need to be on the scene. Rightly or wrongly, the BBC has been criticised by the SNP for the way in which it represents Scotland. In some ways, sending the 'face' of the Corporation's news output to Scotland to report on the resignation was an... easy win. It removed an avenue for criticism by demonstrating a level of respect towards Scottish institutions (not least of all because of the impact they've had on British politics over the past two decades).
