The “coming up on the BBC News Channel” is also only seen on the NC itself and BBC One HD, in cases where it hasn’t been regionalised. It will also appear on BBC One Nightlight, I’m assuming, as that becomes the “new” generic region-less BBC One.
Once Freeview and iPlayer rollout of the HD regions is complete, it won’t be seen on BBC One aside from Nightlight (unless Nightlight takes the London feed without the regional headlines blanked, I’m not sure).
It was also always deliberately worded in such a way that if you weren’t watching on the NC, it didn’t matter. It was a coming up regarding that channel, filling a space, but also being no different to watching BBC One and being told that a programme is about to start on BBC Two.
It’s perhaps the odd case of where, because we are pres fans and know more about what is happening behind the scenes, the generic nature of it is more obvious to us than the average viewer. I doubt many people would find it odd at all.
