It's hard to put into words what a loss this is. Dateline was pretty much the only weekend program, on any news channel, I was always looking forward to and would tune in to hear smart, experienced journalists talking about last week's top news stories. You just don't get this sort of thing, anywhere, these days. Yet you get a bunch of talking heads chatting about daily papers and stuff, from morning to midnight. Plus the all so important Zoom guests on Fraser's show. Oh, and another show for Atkins. There's enough money in the BBC piggybank for a double dose of his ''explainers''.
CNNI used to have International Correspondents, a weekend show hosted by Fionnuala Sweeney, with a similar premise, which was also great. Its cancelation happened at the moment CNNI's downfall started. The same could be said for BBC at this point.....
