In 1988, more space was created in the newsroom to develop a much larger newsroom set - the 9pm News was going to get a revamp, and someone in the BBC liked the newsroom based studio, and thought it would work well for the 9pm News, and also cost saving to use for all weekend news/bank holiday news and news summaries.
The old daytime news summary studio was eventually dismantled once the larger newsroom set was launched on Halloween night of 1988
