Yesterday was also a sad day for Quebec's TVA as they announced massive layoffs of over 500 people, accounting for one-third of their total workforce. Local newscasts in their smaller regional areas (including Sherbrooke) will cease to be anchored locally and will be anchored from Quebec City by a single anchor. The Montreal, Quebec City and regional affiliates (e.g. RNC Media-owned stations in Gatineau-Ottawa) are not affected by these changes.
TVA will also cease production of entertainment programming and instead outsource them to third parties. The only shows produced by TVA moving forward will be news, their morning show Salut Bonjour and select sports programming on TVA Sports.
TVA is also expected to sell its longtime Montreal headquarters and move to Quebecor's head office in Montreal.
The layoffs are expected to commence within 16 weeks as of today.
This was how various TVA Nouvelles bulletins opened on that sombre day. The Sherbrooke station is sadly going to be hit the hardest by these changes.
