Their website is outdated too (along with most non-metropolitan stations). There's no money left in the entire Canadian media industry. I can't see how NTV can get new sets or new logos. The CRTC local station licences have local programming quotas (the private stations meet them with "local" news), which is why Global and CTV won't start a new station there.

As mentioned earlier, the new CTV National News edition is a response to recently massive job cuts (and make additional cuts?*). This is on top of the closure of radio stations and CTV recently reducing Saskatoon's newscasts to only noon and 6 pm on weekdays, which is slightly above the minimum required by their licence in the city, with all others being province wide from Regina.
*My guess is they currently need two different teams to produce the 5pm and 6 pm hour-long newscasts. If there's a break at 5:30 pm, then only one team is needed?

You still need a separate producer for a 5 PM newscast, regardless if it’s 30 minutes or 1 hour long. Also, the same control room staff (or shift) normally do both the 5 & 6 newscasts. Apart from maybe losing a news writer in the afternoons, I don’t see how sandwiching a new national newscast at 5:30 would reduce staff (CTV has already confirmed there’s no job losses at the local newsrooms because of this). In fact, it’s kind of baffling that CTV is doing this, considering they were supposedly in a cost-cutting mode now.

Regarding NTV, the EPGs are showing that they are NOT showing the new 5:30 CTV News (which would air at 6 PM NT). They are sticking with their 90 minute local news package, and Global National at 7 PM.

And in the age of multiplexing on DTV, it was kind of a surprised that NTV didn’t put CTV on CJON-DT 6.2 (either their own schedule or simulcasting CTV Atlantic with local commercials) and have 6.1 just have NTV local and Global programming.
