Going back to Japan, and the coverage of the earthquake a couple of weeks ago. In my previous remarks about the warning system, I said this about the earthquake early warning system, and how for non-national broadcasters, warnings will only be shown if applicable to their broadcast area.
I have just come across this video which demonstrates my point nicely with how local channels cover the situation with their own warnings and journalists. In this video, the channels from left to right, top to bottom are:
- Tokai TV (Fuji TV affiliate for Aichi, Gifu & Mie prefectures)
- NHK-E (National)
- NHK-G (National)
- Chukyo TV (NTV affiliate for Aichi, Gifu & Mie prefectures)
- CBC (TBS affiliate affiliate for Aichi, Gifu & Mie prefectures)
- Me-Tele (TV Asahi affiliate for Aichi, Gifu & Mie prefectures)
- TV Aichi (TV Tokyo affiliate for Aichi, Gifu & Mie prefectures)
- BS12 TwellV (Satellite channel, broadcasting nationwide)

These warning and their graphics/messages can expand as the JMA gets more data in, and once again, don't require human involvement to broadcast.
