When Doctor Who came back in 2005, the old series was referred to by fans as Classic Who - and the last episode (not counting the 1996 TV movie) was 16 years old (Survival, which aired in 1989). That's like calling something from 2007 classic now.
So the first couple of series of the new era will be older for the latest reboot than the last of the classic era were back in 2005.
Think it's partly due to picture quality/effects etc., general technology and of course your own age but 15-20 years ago now doesn't seem the distance it was 20 years ago. With most late noughties content the biggest tells really they aren't new content are the mobile phones.
