I'm sure the thing Rocky did in tonight's episode by propping the switch in the fusebox to stop it tripping wouldn't work. In the fuse boxes I've used, if something trips as soon as you turn it on, it still cuts out even if you hold the switch up- presumably to stop things like Rocky's trying!

What do you think actually happened here? Very late compliance edit or just a placeholder that got left in that wasn’t completed in time for broadcast? I assumed these were edited and finished weeks in advance?

It felt like a creative decision when I watched it.

You mean, they looked at it back, decided to change it so they could take the story in a different direction than originally, but, didn’t have time to do it properly? Just seems really clunky.

FWIW, I don’t watch EE so don’t know anything about these characters or how the story has developed… just saw this in my newsfeed and thought it was quite interesting for a major bbc show.

Sam's "on the buses" line in today's episode made me groan... writing an in joke into the show there.

I seem to remember they nearly had to use it, as Lacey Turner's voice went earlier in the day.

Yeah it was documented at the time there was a dress rehearsal back up tape in case some disaster happened, so its not new knowledge. But they never had to use it as it all went well at the time (aside from a couple of camera issues and somebody fluffed their lines but the show must go on).

The blue place has about 17 pages of discussion leading up to, during and after the live episode of the time.

But this is the first time it’s actually surfaced, isn’t it? I certainly haven’t seen it before.

It’s surprisingly rough in places, for a final dress run. I also remember it being widely reported that Archie’s killer wouldn’t actually be confirmed until the night itself - that there were 6 or so potentials rehearsed and the actors and crew would only know moments before the reveal. I’m sure alternate scenarios were rehearsed early in the process - in fact, I’m sure one of the behind the scenes shows screened a few after the fact - but the extent to which they kept the secret was exaggerated (which I’d personally always suspected anyway) as the cast and crew clearly all knew at least by the time this was recorded
