Actually, Elgourmet (which is the correct writing style for the channel's name) is based out of Argentina; it was created back in 2000 by a former subsidiary of national broadcaster América TV, Pramer (short for Producciones América), whose founder, Armenian-Argentinian media mogul Eduardo Eurnekian, had sold two years before to TCI/Liberty Media; by 2006, it had been integrated within Liberty Global, and by 2013, it had joined the Chellomedia network as part of a reorganisation after MGM Holdings sold its Latin American channels (the local MGM Channel, a local version of MGM HD and lifestyle-oriented Casa Club TV) to Liberty, before selling them to AMC.
The previous rebrand, made in 2015, aligned Elgourmet with its Spanish counterpart Canal Cocina, including some of its original and imported programming into Elgourmet's schedule (mostly composed of original content produced mostly in Argentina and Mexico). A similar move was also done with Casa Club TV, which was renamed MásChic and was aligned with another Spanish counterpart, Canal Decasa.

The new look, according to AMC executives, is part of the decision to return the channel to its glory years, by turning back to a schedule mostly composed of originals (some Canal Cocina content will remain in the interim), even if the channel didn't suffer from a dramatic channel drift or ratings decline. Here's a bigger sample of the new look:
