CNEWS in France has hosts which don't give their opinion, because firstly, they are bound by regulations meaning that they can't, and second, who really cares what the hosts' opinion is?
If your host is better off giving an opinion, by all means, have them on as a regular panelist, but not as a host. It makes for a better program when there's a separation between who's hosting and who's giving their opinion.
CNEWS is regularly bashed for having a very skewed set of guests (and the air-time per political party percentage by the equivalent of OFCOM there confirms that), and their choice of topics is very skewed, but at the end of the day, it generally is okay because there's always someone on the helm on air who can more or less fairly moderate the debates on set.
